Meissen Keramik GENERA technical catalogue

HISTORY OF MEISSEN KERAMIK The history of MEISSEN KERAMIK began in 1855 in Saxony – the cradle of the German ceramics industry. It is right here, nearby Dresden and the mining district of Seilitz-Lóthainer, in Meissen, that Gottfried Heinrich Melzer developed and patented the heat resistant tile – the famous “patented Meissen tile.” His innovative idea inspired Carl Teichert, a Meissen-based master potter to design tiled stoves. Thus, in 1863, on the NewMarket Square in Meissen, the first Carl Teichert Stove and Chamotte Factory was opened. The technical and aesthetic qualities of the stoves quickly gained recognition and buyers across Europe. They were also repeatedly awarded at German and international exhibitions. In 1879 the Teichert Plant started production of Meissen porcelain. Three years later (1882), at the Commercial Court of the Royal District Court of Meissen, the first MEISSEN trade mark was registered. The 20th century was a time of shaping and strengthening the culture of the company focused on innovation, perfection, reliability at every level of operations. It was also a time of expanding the portfolio of products and equipment available in the company’s offer. These solid in terms of quality and aesthetic foundations allowed the company to survive the turbulent times of the last century. Since 1992, the plant has operated under the name MEISSEN KERAMIK Gmbh, continuously reinforcing its strong position in markets around the world. 9
